SCHOOL
Being at school is really cool and being year five
makes me feel so alive.
Reading and writing mathematics too,
have so many friends there is so much to do!
Peer mediators walk round in their dark green vest
to make sure you kids aren't being a pest!
We’ll be looking to see if you’re playing your best!
On the field you may find
us year fives ready to blow your mind!
Best games in the school with hula hoops and balls
you will be shocked to find!
The Year six are off to camp
we hope for the best it doesn't get damp.
While they’re gone the year five
wait for the museum time to arrive!
Together we learn and grow
being AS ACES as we go!

Another busy week...we've had 5 tests this week called PAT's, we're g;ad they're finished...yah!
The TAG group cut up pigs brains and were amazed with their discoveries. The brains were quite small really and odd to cut. We found a lot of blood cells and other gross things. Some people even took pictures with chrome books! It was really fun finding all the weird parts because it was really white and light coloured.

TOP TEAM CHALLENGE
On Tuesday 24th Nov the Year 4-5-6 children participated in a Top Team Challenge afternoon. There were a range of challenges which we had to complete in only 5 minutes. We were placed in teams and competed against another team at each activity. The two water activities were very popular!
Dear Diary
Yesterday was Top Team for Allenton School. My favourite events were the gutter ball and the burst pipe.
In the burst pipe there was an old pipe which had lots of finger sized holes at the bottom. The aim of the game was to get the ping pong ball at the bottom of the pipe to the top by adding water through the top of the pipe.
At first Tom did the pouring because he was so short he couldn't get the water in. When i had a go , I managed to get 7 full buckets in. As it was our last activity, we poured water all over ourselves at the end. It's a shame that Top Team only come every 4 years because it's so much fun!
Olivia
Dear Diary
On Tuesday i did Top Team. There were many activities but I liked the Question of Balance. You had to balance a bucket of water on a flat stick, then walk with it over an obstacle course and tip the bucket of water into another bucket at the end. I was hopeless at it, but we did get some water in the bucket, and we won!

The Bumper Balls by John
When we were on camp for one week we did lots of things like abseiling, archery, cycling, long ropes and water slides. O thought that abseiling was to do with your abs and sailing a boat! I really liked the water slide but the best thing for me was the bumper ball competition. You had to wriggle yourself into a giant bubble ball and you had a harness over your body. Your head was inside the ball but your legs were on the outside. Mrs Gill said we looked like Spongebob! The funniest part was when the adults had a turn because they bounced all around the place and flew up into the air :)

Volleyball sessions with Angus Gourlay from Sport Canterbury..lots of fun and challenging for all! Angus was a great coach and he made it look so easy :)SWIMMING SPORTS

We wish our length swimmer winners all the best for the Counties Swimming Sports on Tuesday 3rd March. HOUSE CUP The overall winning House was KOWHAI, with Kakariki coming 2nd. Gabriella talked to us about her experiences down at Antarctica. She showed us a picture of her snuggled up in a sleeping bag inside an ice cave.
In this picture she is showing us all the layers of clothing which you need to wear to keep warm. Harry was pretty hot by the end of this session.

Lately Room 3 have been wandering around the school looking at spring plants we saw some Camilla's, rhododendrons ,daffodils and lots of other plants.
Room 3 have created a sports mural for the Allenton school fair. We have created a pop art sport themed mural with paint and the words Jump, Now and Move, we had lots of fun creating it!
Every class in the school will have a picture to be auctioned at the Fair. Some of the pictures are on display in the school office. Come along and have a look at our awesome art work!

We participated in a Skip a thon this term to raise funds for The Heart Foundation. In preparation we had to learn a variety of skipping skills- individual, paired and group skipping techniques. The extra skipping certainly improved our fitness! As a class we raised $356.
As an area we enjoyed a visit from a local business man and very famous Mr. P.Lynn who shared with us his hopes and dreams of using kites to develop other fun activities and challenges such as kite surfing and kite buggies . He shared with us his experiences and how through hours of trial and error, he enjoys the thrill of creating something even better. He has also spent a lot of time developing ideas on why kites don't fly! He attended Allenton Primary in 1952 and went on to High School then University and studied to obtain a degree in engineering. With inventing, you don't always know what you'll end up with and he still enjoys the thought of creating something which is that little bit different.
School Fair September 21st
11-2pm Come along to our School Fair :) In Room 3 we have been busy creating mosaic treasure boxes to sell. These would be handy to put items in such as pens, envelopes, cards , any special treasure! Some children will be making fresh Candy Floss to sell along with bags of popcorn. .......so save up your pocket money! As a class we have also been creating a class mural for the class auctions of Artwork. |
As a class, we were involved in the Roots of Empathy programme- we had a visit from Max 2-3 times each term to learn about babies and how quickly they develop. We learnt about safety, baby needs, toys, understanding emotions, how stressful it can be to have a young baby in the house, how to deal with stress in a positive way and how babies rely upon us for so much when they are young. Mr Hadaway came into our class with Max and his mother.
Max's visit on 9 August
